Your information, looked after.

This explains what personal information Chuffin’ Ale collects when you use our website, our GaryGPT kiosk in the shop and our apps, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. In short: we only collect what we need to sell you great beer, we never sell it, and you can ask us about it any time.
1. Who we are
This website, our shop kiosk and our apps are run by Chuffin' Ale Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17408258). Our registered office is 4 Ormerod Street, Rawtenstall, Rossendale, BB4 8EB. Our shop is at 42 Bank Street, Rawtenstall, Lancashire, BB4 8DY.
We’re the “data controller” for the personal information described here, which means we decide how it’s used and we’re responsible for looking after it. For anything to do with your information, email chuffin.ale@gmail.com.
2. What we collect and why
We only collect what we need to run the shop. Under UK data protection law we need a legal reason (a “lawful basis”) for each use, shown below.
| What | Why we use it | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your account: name, email address, password (stored securely by our login provider, never visible to us) | To create and run your account, and let you sign in | Contract |
| Orders: items, prices, delivery or collection choice, delivery address and phone number, order notes | To take payment, prepare and deliver or hand over your order, and contact you about it | Contract |
| Order records | To keep the financial records the law requires | Legal obligation |
| Loyalty stamps and order count | To run our loyalty card (10 stamps = a free drink) | Contract |
| Saved items and saved GaryGPT picks | So you can find them again in your account | Contract |
| An email address typed into the GaryGPT kiosk in our shop | To email you the picks you asked for (and save them to your account if you have one). We don't add it to any mailing list | Your request (contract) / legitimate interests |
| Emails we send you: order confirmations, tickets, order updates, welcome and password reset emails | To keep you informed about your account and orders. We don't send marketing emails | Contract |
| Notification subscriptions: an anonymous ID for your browser or device, and the interests you tick | To send you the notifications you signed up for | Consent (turn them off any time) |
| Your confirmation that you're 18 or over | We only sell alcohol to adults | Legal obligation |
| Anonymous visit statistics: pages viewed, browser type, country | To understand how the site is used and improve it. No cookies, no profile of you | Legitimate interests |
| Technical and security information, e.g. a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address or email for up to an hour | To stop abuse such as spam password-reset or picks emails | Legitimate interests |
We don’t collect or store your card details: payments are handled entirely by Stripe (see below).
4. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account, loyalty stamps, saved items and picks | Until you ask us to delete your account |
| Orders and payment records | 6 years after the order, as UK tax law requires |
| Notification subscriptions | Until you turn notifications off, or the browser or device stops using them |
| Kiosk email addresses (if you don't have an account) | We don't store them ourselves, only in our email provider's sending logs for a short period |
| Anti-abuse information | Up to 1 hour |
5. Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that’s wrong (you can update your name and address in your account)
- ask us to delete your information (except what we must keep by law)
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
- ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere
- withdraw your consent to notifications at any time, in Notification settings or your browser or phone settings
Email chuffin.ale@gmail.com and we’ll reply within one month. There’s no charge.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
7. Keeping it safe
Everything is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to customer information is limited to Gary and the people who help run the shop, through password- and PIN-protected admin tools. Passwords are never stored in a form we can read.
8. Under 18s
We sell alcohol, so our website, accounts and notifications are only for people aged 18 or over. We don’t knowingly collect information about anyone younger.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll let account holders know by email.
